D2 tool steel is a versatile high carbon, high chromium, air hardened tool steel characterized by relatively high hardness and a microstructure containing a large amount of large chromium rich alloy carbides. These carbides have good wear resistance when in sliding contact with other metals and abrasives. Although there are other steels with higher toughness or wear resistance to choose from, D2 offers an effective combination of wear resistance and toughness, tool performance, price, and various product forms.
Usage: Molds, shearing knives, food processing knives, and measuring tools used for rollers, punches, material dropping, forming, trimming, and wire rolling
